Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Academic Department

You can thank the field of health promotion and disease prevention for many of the greatest societal achievements of our lifetimes, including motor vehicle safety, safer and healthier foods, healthier mothers and babies, as well as the recognition of tobacco as a health hazard. Health Promotion and Disease Prevention in public health addresses the behavioral, social and cultural factors related to individual, community, population health and health disparities over the life course. Maintaining a high quality of life begins with an understanding of how our actions and interactions can affect our health. Our program engages students in applied research to promote healthier lives in the most vulnerable communities both near and far.
