Florence Greer has extensive experience in public health. She served as an Investigator/Consumer Safety Officer with the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Detroit, Michigan, where her duties at the FDA included enforcement of laws and regulations protecting the public’s health from foods, drugs, cosmetics, and medical devices that were adulterated, misbranded, ineffective, or dangerous.
After working for the FDA, Ms. Greer served in various positions at Cleary University in Ann Arbor, Michigan, including Associate Director of Student Services and Director of Admissions and Student Services. During this time Ms. Greer was offered an opportunity to continue her studies at FIU by pursuing an MPH.
Upon graduating with an MPH degree, Ms. Greer accepted a position with the Florida Department of Health (DOH) in Miami-Dade as the Teen Pregnancy Coordinator. In this role, she coordinated services for pregnant and parenting teens, infants, and children up to age three through the Healthy Start Program. At DOH in Miami-Dade Ms. Greer also served as the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Coordinator for the School Health Program where she introduced a Best Practice on the Empathy Belly Pregnancy Simulator and Baby Think it Over. After accepting a position in the Office of HIV/AIDS as the Minority AIDS Coordinator, Ms. Greer provided and coordinated technical assistance and consultation regarding minority-focused HIV/AIDS activities in Miami-Dade County. This included community planning and prevention, collaborating with local community planning groups, colleges/universities, community-based organizations, schools, faith-based organizations and others to promote and conduct HIV/AIDS activities to reduce new infections and increase HIV testing.
In her current position as the Public Health Practicum Coordinator/Instructor, Ms. Greer seeks practicum placements for MPH students as an applied practice experience along with integrated learning experiences to prepare students as public health professionals. She also assists students with career advising.
