School of Social Work Academic Department School

The social work profession is geared towards preventing and ameliorating social problems to enhance the quality of human life. Social work practice requires a high level of dedication, skill and knowledge. In our programs, students learn to intervene with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities, evaluate the effects of those interventions, as well as advocate for human rights and social and economic justice. With this training, our graduates are able to make important impacts in our communities and contribute substantially to the field of social work. Accredited since 1974 by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), Stempel Colleges School of Social Work offers programs of professional study to prepare graduates to work in governmental, non-profit, and for-profit settings, in community, regional, state and national systems. Our programs put an emphasis on achieving a comprehensive, developmental and community-oriented understanding of the needs facing urban societies in rapidly changing social, political, economic and cultural conditions. We maintain partnerships with over a hundred community agencies, throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and Monroe counties. Our students are repeatedly recognized for upholding the core valuesof social work, including their outstanding commitment to community engagement. In 2017, the Phi Alpha Honor Society chapter at the School of Social Work received its 11th consecutive National Service Award.
