biography

  • Dr. Mary Helen Hayden, director of the School of Social Work is a licensed clinical social worker in Florida and a diplomate in clinical social work. She has worked as a clinician as well as chief trainer for the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) Southeast Regional Training Center. Dr. Hayden has dedicated her career to working with socially and economically at-risk populations and to educating the next generation of social workers. Her research on service-learning in higher education led to the creation of a stand-alone interdisciplinary service-learning course. She has played a central role in the development of the interdisciplinary team approach – known as Neighborhood HELP™ – to underserved South Florida communities, with students from medicine, nursing and social work. Her current research focuses on interdisciplinary teamwork, with a focus in the health arena.
