biography

  • Dr. Parente is a senior editor for the International Journal of Emerging Markets and an associate editor for the Cross-Cultural Strategic Management Journal. He currently serves on the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS), Thunderbird International Business Review (TIBR), Global Strategy Journal (GSJ), Cross-Cultural Management Journal (CMJ), and the Journal of International Management (JIM).

    Dr. Parente is currently one of the Vice Presidents of the Ibero-American Academy of Management. He also served as an elected board member for the European International Business Association (EIBA) for six years. He also served a three-year leadership position with SMS’s Global Strategy Interest Group and is currently serving as chair of the Teaching Community at SMS. Dr. Parente is one of the VPs of the Ibero-American Academy of Management. He chaired and organized two SMS Special Conferences in Brazil: the 2018 SMS Conference in Sao Paulo and the 2011 SMS Conference in Rio de Janeiro.

    He has been a guest editor of the Global Strategy Journal 2013 Special Issue titled “Strategic Modularity & the Architecture of the Multinational Firm” and also a guest editor of the Journal of International Management 2015 Special Issue titled “From Resources and Value Chains to Consumer Benefits and Innovation Ecosystems: Demand-Side Perspectives in International Business.”

    Dr. Parente is the recipient of the prestigious “Sereia de Ouro” 2006 International Award in Brazil and was a finalist for the Farmer Best Dissertation Award from the Academy of International Business (2004). He was a member of Global-E Team, which was one of the 10 finalists in the 2010 Progressive X-Prize Competition.

    On the professional side, Dr. Parente has more than 25 years of work experience and has worked for, managed, and consulted with several private and public institutions in Brazil, the United States, and Bulgaria. Dr. Parente has experience designing and teaching programs for C-level executives in Brazil, Colombia, and Miami.
