  • Dr. Sarah Stumbar, Associate Professor of Family Medicine in the Department of Medical Education, leads the Office of Student Affairs, supporting students from matriculation through graduation with services that include career and professional development, wellness programming, and administrative guidance. Since joining FIU in 2015, she has served as director of the Family Medicine Clerkship (2016–2019) and assistant dean for Clinical Education (2019–2024), overseeing the third- and fourth-year medical curriculum. Beyond her academic roles, Stumbar provides primary care to the Opa Locka and Miami Gardens communities through the Green Family Foundation Neighborhood Health Education Program (NeighborhoodHELP).

    With a deeply ingrained commitment to social justice and reproductive healthcare, Dr. Stumbar went into medicine with the belief that compassionate and equitable health care can change not only lives but also entire communities. She received her BA in the History of Medicine from Yale University; an MPH in Sexuality and Health from Columbia University; and her MD from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. In 2015, Dr. Stumbar completed her residency training in Social and Family Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York, with an interest in reproductive health care in the primary care setting.

    Dr. Stumbar has published multiple narrative essays and papers about her experiences and won numerous awards for her commitment to community health and humanistic medicine.
