biography

  • Carolina Gómez is an associate professor at Florida International University. Prior to joining FIU, she Towson University’s College of Business and Economics and at the University of Houston’s College of Business Administration. In the private sector, Dr. Gómez worked with Nortel in marketing and strategic planning. Subsequently, she worked with General Electric (GE) where she completed a leadership development program within GE Capital.

    Dr. Gómez has consulted on empowerment, self-managed work teams, and cross-cultural values. Her research focuses mainly on cross-cultural organizational behavior, MNC management, and country differences. Her interests within organizational behavior lie in motivation and the factors that affect critical constructs such as organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behaviors. In addition, she does research on control and coordination in MNCs. Finally, she has looked at how country institutions affect levels of entrepreneurship across countries.

    She has presented and published papers in forums such as Academy of Management Conference, Academy of International Business Conference, International Association of Business and Society Conference, Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Group and Organization Management, Journal of Business Ethics, International Journal of Human Resource Management, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of World Business, Journal of Business Research, the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, among others. Additionally, Gómez has made presentations for several years at the national meeting for the National Society of Hispanic MBAs. She has served as a member on two steering committees: one for the first meetings of the newly created IberoAmerican Academy of Management as well as for the PhD Project Management Doctoral Students Association Conference (for which she also served as a faculty advisor). She is currently on the editorial board of the Journal Management Research, an international journal focused on IberoAmerican issues. Currently she is VP for the IberoAmerican Academy of Management.
