  • Raul Gonzalez, Ph.D., is a clinical neuropsychologist and Professor of Psychology at Florida International University whose NIH-funded program dissects how reward processing, executive control, and socio‑environmental forces shape substance‑use trajectories—particularly cannabis—and neurocognitive outcomes in youth and adults, including people living with HIV. As FIU site Principal Investigator for the landmark Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study® (11,880 youth, 21 U.S. sites), he and his collaborators have helped propel an open‑science enterprise that has already generated more than 1,000 peer‑reviewed papers. Dr. Gonzalez has maintained uninterrupted NIH support since arriving at FIU, brought more than $47 million in awards to the institution as PI or Co‑Investigator (>$31 million as PI), authored over 125 publications cited over 12,000 times (h‑index 53). He also leads a NIDA T32 training grant and has sponsored multiple NRSA and career development (K‑series) awardees.
