Dr. Abdel-Hameed Badawy earned his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 2013. He began his academic career as a tenure-track Assistant Professor at Arkansas Tech University before joining the Klipsch School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at New Mexico State University (NMSU) in 2016, where he was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2021.
Dr. Badawy’s research spans performance modeling, prediction, monitoring, and evaluation; high-performance computer architectures; hardware security with a focus on IoT devices; the security of machine learning models; and quantum computing. His scholarly contributions include 25 journal articles, 78 refereed conference papers, and 16 workshop and poster presentations. He has secured over $11.5 million in research funding from agencies such as the NSF, DOD, and DOE, including $3.4 million as Principal Investigator.
In the classroom, Dr. Badawy has taught 11 distinct courses—4 at Arkansas Tech and 8 at NMSU. He has been active in mentorship, including 2 postdoctoral fellows, 12 Master’s students, and 10 undergraduate and high school students. He has successfully graduated 10 Ph.D. students and currently supervises 8 Ph.D. and 6 M.S. candidates.
Dr. Badawy serves as an Associate Editor for Communication and Computing, Journal of Engineering and Applied Science, and sits on the editorial boards of Discover Internet of Things (Discover IoT) and the International Journal of Computing and Digital Systems (IJCDS). He has contributed to numerous technical program committees and held key leadership roles at NMSU, including Computer Engineering Area Chair, Faculty Senator, and Chair of the Graduate Faculty Council.
