Athletic Training Academic Department

The fast-growing profession of Athletic Training (AT) is a specialty practiced by athletic trainers, who are health care professionals that collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients. As first responders on the field, Athletic Training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and intervention of emergency, acute and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities. FIUs Department of Athletic Training offers an accredited professional Master of Science in Athletic Training (MS-AT) degree program in the state of Florida and was one of the first to offer a professional masters AT program in the nation. The Department now offers the first Doctor of Athletic Training degree program in the Southeast United States. The Department also has an established chapter of the national honor society for athletic training students and graduates, Iota Tau Alpha. FIUs Department of Athletic Training is also uniquely positioned to educate and graduate minority athletic trainers to meet the needs of the growing minority population both nationally and locally. Our programs instills critical thinking, problem solving, ethical reasoning abilities and interpersonal skills required to be successful in the athletic training profession. Students who graduate from the program become dedicated professionals involved in the athletic training profession in terms of continuing education, leadership, and professional responsibility.
