abstract

  • Much of this textbook addresses scientific and research-oriented approaches toward successful grantsmanship and scholarship. An underlying consideration too often neglected is that of what is known as authorship. In simple, unscientific terms, authorship refers to the names of those individuals listed as contributors to a published manuscript. For the sake of this discussion, this chapter will focus its attention to those manuscripts submitted to peer-reviewed journals; albeit, similar concepts of authorship would and should apply to textbook and other writing contributions. Single-authored manuscripts are exempt from this discussion as there are no considerations of author order that would need to be made. Both single author and multiple contributor manuscripts will adhere to the same rules discussed later in this chapter related to issues of plagiarism.
