Learning over time is a rather challenging concept that emphasizes competence in a large number of skills in a sequential and progressively challenging manner. It is not a checklist of events but rather an acquisition of knowledge that can be shifted from the classroom to the clinical setting incorporating psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains. Communication between academic faculty and approved clinical instructors, consistent and accurate information dissemination and documentation, and increasingly challenging scenarios all contribute to the success of the learning-over-time concept as it relates to athletic training students' education.
