  • Prof. Alex Krasnok is a highly accomplished researcher and academic with an impressive track record of achievements. He obtained his Ph.D. with distinction from ITMO University in 2013 and has since made significant contributions to the fields of applied electromagnetics, nanophotonics, metamaterials, plasmonics, and nanotechnology.

With over 170 published papers, including five books and book chapters and four patents, Alex's research has earned him several prestigious awards and grants, including the gold medal of Nobel Laureate Zhores Alferov’s Foundation in 2016 and the Early-Career Award in Nanophotonics in 2021.

Moreover, Alex has held research positions at renowned institutions such as The University of Texas at Austin and CUNY Advanced Science Research Center, where he served as the Founding Director of Photonic Core Facility. He currently holds a tenure-track Assistant Professorship at Florida International University.

As a top 2% scientist (all fields) in the world, according to data from Elsevier BV and Stanford University, Alex's research expertise and contributions are highly valued in the academic community. His cross-disciplinary approach to research has yielded important breakthroughs in areas such as extreme scattering engineering, nanoantennas, metasurfaces, optics of 2D transition-metal dichalcogenides, and low-loss dielectric nanostructures.

research interests

  • Research interests are in the areas of applied physics, photonics, and nanotechnology, with a particular focus on innovative and extreme aspects of wave interaction with natural and artificial materials. My recent research work spans a broad range of topics including extreme scattering engineering, nanoparticles, nanoantennas, active devices and advanced metasurfaces, optics of 2D TMDC materials and low-loss dielectric nanostructures. I have extensively worked on translating and exploiting well-established methods and concepts from plasmonics to low-loss all-dielectric nanophotonics. The gold medal of Nobel Laureate Zhores Alferov’s Foundation recognized my outstanding results.
