Dr. Edgar Ramos Vieira is a Professor of Physical Therapy and the Dean of Research at Florida International Universityâs Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences. He is Editor-in-Chief of Physical & Occupational Therapy in Geriatrics, a grant reviewer for agencies including NIH, CDC, and NIDILRR, and serves on the Board of Directors of Healthy Little Havana in Miami, FL.
Dr. Vieira holds bachelorâs and masterâs degrees in physical therapy, a Ph.D. in rehabilitation science, and completed postdoctoral trainings in health research methods and in older adults' falls prevention. His research focuses on healthy aging, with an emphasis on maintaining independence in later life by optimizing mobility and preventing frailty, functional decline and falls in older adults.
His work has been funded by the Florida Department of Health, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Administration for Community Living (ACL-HHS), and the National Institutes of Health. He has authored over 160 peer-reviewed publications, with > 9,100 citations (h-index > 40; i10-index > 110). His research has national and international impact in the fields of aging, rehabilitation, and community health.
