Dr. Mst Shamim Ara Shawkat is currently an Assistant Professor in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Florida International University (FIU). Before joining FIU, she was a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) for two years. She earned her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the UTK in 2019. Before starting her Ph.D., she worked as a faculty for four years at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), the premier engineering university in Bangladesh. Prior to that she worked as a Researcher at National Center for Child Health & Development, a renowned research center on Biomedical Engineering at Tokyo, Japan. Her research interests include mixed-signal VLSI circuit design, neuromorphic computing hardware, photodetector design, integrated smart sensors for biomedical applications, and environmental monitoring. She published over 35 scientific articles (including journals, conference papers, and book chapters) in prestigious platforms. She received several awards and accolades for her research, including the Chancellor Citation Award from the University of Tennessee for extraordinary professional promise in research in 2017, 2018, and 2019. She was awarded the Chancellor Fellowship from the University of Tennessee in recognition of outstanding academic credentials to support her Ph.D. studies from 2015-2019. She is a senior member of the IEEE.
