Professor Kakar joined the faculty at FIU in 1993. She earned multiple university awards in research, teaching, and service and has been nominated for the University Distinguished Professor Award. Professor Kakar’s research has been published in national and international journals including Journal of Gang Research, Journal of Criminal Justice, Journal of Police and Criminal Psychology, Journal of Contemporary Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice Policy Review, Journal of Policing, Studies on Crime and Crime prevention, Australian and New Zealand Journal of Criminology, and Indian Journal of Criminology. She also served as Guest Editor for the Journal of Contemporary Criminal Justice, Special Issue on Juvenile Justice in the New Millennium. Professor Kakar authored books including Human Trafficking, Child Abuse and Delinquency, and Domestic Abuse, and has contributed chapters to other books, such as the Handbook of Juvenile Justice. She also reviews articles for various criminology and criminal justice journals. Professor Kakar is a member of several national and international criminal justice associations. She serves as a reviewer for several federal agencies including the Department of Justice (Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and National Institute of Justice), Department of Education, Center for Disease Control, Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Department of Health and Human Services.
