abstract

  • Forced migration refers to the movement of people from their home region to another (within or outside of their home country) in situations where there exists an element of force or coercion. These elements of force or coercion may include threats to people's lives and livelihoods emanating from natural or human-made causes. People may be forced to leave their homes in order to avoid the effects of armed conflict, situations of generalized violence, violations of human rights, or natural and human-made disasters. Generally, forced migration is the movement of people from their home region to another region that is perceived to be safer.
