biography

  • Dr. Adam Rauckhorst is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the Florida International University Center for Translational Science in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Before joining FIU in 2025, Dr. Rauckhorst completed his postdoctoral training with Dr. Eric Taylor at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, where he investigated mitochondrial carrier function in obesity, diabetes, and organ injury. He earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Science from The Ohio State University and his B.S. in Molecular Biology from Ohio Northern University.

The Rauckhorst Lab studies mitochondrial regulation of cardiovascular metabolism, with a focus on nutrient flux, redox balance, and metabolic signaling under both physiological and pathological conditions. Using multidisciplinary and collaborative approaches, the lab combines mass spectrometry-based metabolomics and stable isotope tracing to uncover mechanistic links between metabolism, disease, and cell state transitions.
