Dr. Rahman is a postdoctoral research associate in the laboratory of Professor Hoshang Unwalla. He is currently investigating the impact of the Transforming growth factor b (TGFb) signaling induced by HIV infection and cigarette smoke (CS) on Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) and lactoperoxidase (LPO) biogenesis and their functions.
research interests
1. Evaluate the roles of TGF-b signaling in mucociliary dysfunction in smokers and COPD patients 2. Determine the impacts of the HIV/smoke-altered MicroRNAome in chronic bronchitis and Chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases 3. Determine the mechanism by which cigarette smoking upregulates H2O2 that promotes lung inflammation 4. Develop the gene-specific microRNA antagonism using CRISPR-based editing of the miRNA target site on the gene of interest
