Camilo Roa is an ocean and electronic engineer with more than 15 years of experience working in multiple engineering fields including computer science, robotics, information security, unmanned vehicles, acoustic modeling, and machine learning. Camilo specializes in underwater acoustics and is responsible of several projects in the FIU Marine Science department involving autonomous surface vehicles and machine learning classification based on acoustic data.
Camilo is a resourceful individual who works towards adapting new technologies to the biologic and marine arenas. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering from Xaverian Pontifical University, Bogotá, Colombia; and a PhD in Ocean Engineering from Florida Atlantic University. Camilo spends his free time working mathematical problems, reading Latin American and sci-fi literature, training in martial arts, and playing board games with family and friends.
