Stewart J. D’Alessio is a Professor of Criminology in the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs at Florida International University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Stetson University and later completed both a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in Criminology at Florida State University. Professor D’Alessio’s research spans a broad range of topics in criminology and criminal justice, including race and crime, sentencing practices, terrorism, arrest patterns, and the evaluation of criminal justice policies and programs. He has published extensively, and his scholarship is widely recognized for integrating theoretical insight, policy analysis, and practical application. Prior to his academic career, Professor D’Alessio served as a Captain in the Military Police and participated in Operation Just Cause in Panama and Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf region. During Operation Just Cause, his unit was awarded the Valorous Unit Award for extraordinary heroism. Professor D’Alessio also held positions at the Dozier School for Boys in Marianna, Florida; the Florida Department of Corrections in Tallahassee; and the Justice Research and Statistics Association in Washington, D.C.
