biography

  • I am the author of _Abolitionist Geographies_ (2014), co-editor of _Abolitionist Places_ (2013), and author of numerous articles on abolitionism, transcendentalism, Atlantic studies and African-American literature appearing in venues including the _ALH_, _Arizona Quarterly_, _ESQ_, the de Gruyter _Handbook of the American Novel of the Nineteenth Century_, and __Nineteenth-Century American Literature in Transition_. My teaching interests include US literature before 1900, the literatures of US radicalism, indigenous American literatures, and the interdisciplinary environmental humanities.

research interests

  • My research concerns the literary history of the transnational antislavery movement, both in connection to its local influences and implications as well as its intellectual and political afterlives into the present.
