biography

  • I am a plant biologist and Associate Professor at Florida International University. My research explores plant diversity across multiple scales, from genetic and chemical variation within populations to species, evolutionary relationships, and ecosystems. My work integrates population and conservation genetics, phylogenetics, biogeography, plant ecology, natural products, and invasive species research, with a strong focus on the tropics. Overall, I am interested in understanding how plant diversity originates and changes across space and time, and in applying this knowledge to biodiversity conservation and management. I also serve as Co-Chair of the Ecuadorian Plant Specialist Group of the IUCN Species Survival Commission.
