biography

  • Dr. Kaftanovskaya came to FIU from Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. At Baylor she conducted studies to define the hormonal and genetic factors responsible for reproductive organ development. Dr. Kaftanovskaya received her Ph.D. from the Institute of Cytology and Genetics, Russian Academy of Science, thereafter remaining as Instructor in Laboratory Developmental Genetics. She was involved in mammalian chromosome gene mapping and the analysis of chromosomal behavior in mouse stem cells. From 2001 - 2008 she was a Research Scientist at the Laboratory of Freshwater Fish Stocks, Bioscience and Biotechnology Center of Nagoya University, Japan. At Nagoya she developed a novel method of nuclear transplantation of adult somatic cells and embryonic cloning in small Japanese Medaka fish.
