biography

  • Dr. Yhovana Gordon is the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Sciences. Her extensive experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner began in 1999, where she served as a critical care nurse in Kendall Regional Medical Center. These experiences have garnered her lead of multiple funded projects such as the $1.45 Million IPCP Health Grant awarded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

    In 2012, she served as CO-Director on the Nursing Workforce Diversity Funded project titled: Excelente: Excellent Minority Nurses for Excellent Nursing Car.

    In 2011, she obtained her Doctor of Education with a Concentration in Healthcare Education, Minor in Adult Education, from Nova Southeastern University; her Dissertation Topic was Language Proficiency as a Predictor of Academic Success among Foreign-Educated Physicians in Nursing.

    As a lifelong learner, Dr. Gordon also obtained her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of South Alabama Mobile in 2014.
    Dr. Gordon received her Bachelor in Science of Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing from Florida International University.

    As a researcher, Dr. Gordon has focused on nurse education including integration of technology, cultural competency, and interprofessional simulation.

    As of 2020, she has been an instrumental leader and clinician for the university's COVID-19 vaccine initiative and prevention program.
