abstract

  • Fluctuating stresses in tall buildings resulting from wind loads are almost entirely due to inertial loads caused by the movements of the building (survey, twist, etc.). Therefore structural loads are due not to the instantaneous wind loads but to the function of wind load over the preceding few minutes, which sets up the building motion. The prediction of building response to winds is best done by testing aeroelastic models in wind tunnels. Serveral different technique and model types are described in this paper. (K.R.)
