This paper discusses the advanced technique, Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), used to measure the velocity distribution of double diffusive convection of a binary mixture during the solidification process. The experiments were conducted using ammonium chloride solution in a rectangular en.closure. It was found that the double diffusive flow is stronger at the beginning ofsolidification and decays as solidification proceeds.
