abstract

  • A low-profile, wideband X/Ku-band shared-aperture phased array is presented for wideband operation across the 10-16 GHz band. The design employs a compact dual-band unit cell with independent orthogonal polarization, enabling efficient aperture reuse within the same antenna element. A PEC reflectorbacked configuration is used to suppress back radiation while maintaining an overall thickness of approximately 3 mm (0.1 ?0 at the lowest frequency). Infinite-array simulations demonstrate -10 dB impedance bandwidths spanning 10-13 GHz and 13.4-16.5 GHz for the X- and Ku-bands, respectively. Element radiation characteristics are also evaluated using infinite-array analysis, and the phased array performance is projected through array-factor synthesis of an 8 × 8 array, yielding peak gains of about 20 dBi and 21 dBi at the two operating bands.
