This work introduces the first, to our knowledge, PCB-based antenna array covering the 25-100 GHz frequency range, based on the fully planar inverted-L element (FILE) array. The proposed unit cell is inspired from the traditional FILE with two key differences: (1) the ground via is capacitively coupled instead of shorted to the ground, and (2) the feed via is placed in the middle of the unit cell, in between two large ground vias, instead of being asymmetrically placed by a single ground via as in the traditional FILE. Notably, this configuration resolves the common- and loop-mode tradeoff existent in the traditional FILE array and achieves a 4: 1 bandwidth from 25 GHz and all the way up to 100 GHz with an optimal array sampling (0.5 ?h, where ?h is the wavelength at the highest frequency of operation, namely at 100 GHz), while scanning up to ±45° at all principal planes with VSWR 3.
