The metaverse is transforming the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry by enabling immersive, sustainable, and inclusive event experiences that transcend traditional limitations. This chapter examines how the metaverse has been integrated within the MICE industry, enhancing operational efficiency, attendee engagement, and global accessibility while contributing to sustainability through reduced emissions and resource use. Drawing on theoretical frameworks including the Diffusion of Innovations, Technology Acceptance Model, and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology, the chapter explains how and why MICE stakeholders adopt metaverse technologies. Case studies such as SXSW, Virbela, Dubai Expo 2020, and Horizon Workrooms illustrate practical applications, benefits, and measurable impacts of metaverse adoption. The chapter critically addresses challenges related to digital divides, data privacy, and psychological impacts, emphasizing the need for ethical, human-centered design in virtual event planning. Recommendations are provided for event organizers, educators, and policymakers, focusing on strategic planning, workforce up skilling, and infrastructure and policy development to ensure scalability and responsible metaverse integration. By contextualizing current practices within broader technological and sustainability frameworks, this chapter contributes to the understanding of how metaverse technologies can enhance the resilience and inclusivity of the MICE industry in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
