Anticipated demands for fifth generation (5G) wireless communication systems for high data rates has pushed for wideband, efficient, and flexible radio architectures supporting beamforming and massive multiple-input-multiple-output (mMIMO) applications. These technologies require high throughput data transfers, enhanced spectral efficiency, and complex beamforming capabilities, all pushing conventional analog and digital radio Frequency (RF) systems to their limits. Wideband digital beamformers are typically constrained by the number of RF front ends and dedicated analog-to-digital converter (ADC) per chain. Moreover, the need for ultrawideband beamformer realization at millimeter-Waves (mm-Wave) imposes additional constraints on power and cost which becomes impractical for battery constrained devices such as cellular phones.
