abstract

  • In this work, an innovative inverse approach for the efficient diagnosis of faulty array elements is presented. Specifically, leveraging a periodic characteristic mode analysis (CMA) method, we demonstrate that solving the characteristic currents for a single array element is sufficient to represent the characteristic behavior of the entire array. Then, this CMA information is used to address the ill-posed nature of an arbitrarily defined source-reconstruction problem. Our proposed method is validated through the diagnosis of a Yagi-Uda and a planar patch array, where appropriate reconstructions are obtained, realizing a reduction in computational cost by at least three orders of magnitude.
