The programs at Navajo Technical University, Florida International University, Morgan State University and Idaho National Laboratory are at the forefront of fostering energy justice by engaging indigenous communities, particularly the Navajo Nation, in sustainable nuclear initiatives. This presentation outlines the collaborative efforts of these institutions, emphasizing the significant contributions of experts Dr. Peter Romine, Dr. Abdul Dulloo, Dr. Arif Sarwat, and Dr. Stephen U. Egarievwe. These collaborative efforts include: 1. Engaging Indigenous Communities: Commitment that extends beyond conventional academic boundaries, actively involving indigenous communities in developing sustainable solutions. 2. Community-Centric Research and Innovation: Emphasis on community-centric research and exploring innovative applications of nuclear technology tailored to the needs of indigenous contexts. 3. Capacity Building and Education: Dedication to nurturing the next generation of indigenous engineers and professionals through its Electrical Engineering programs. 4. Partnerships with Navajo Nation: Focus on collaborative efforts with the Navajo Nation that involve comprehensive engagement strategies. 5. Addressing Energy Justice: Focus on integrating nuclear technology responsibly and inclusively. 6. Working on Decentralized Microgrids: Recognition of challenges related to remote communities within the Navajo Nation, there is a focus on designing decentralized microgrid systems. 7. Developing Cultural Sensitivity in Infrastructure Development: Incorporation of cultural sensitivity into its Electrical Engineering curriculum, emphasizing the importance of understanding and respecting indigenous traditions. 8. Cultivating Indigenous Leaders.
