abstract

  • In this paper, we present a shared aperture antenna operating at both of the sub-6 and millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequency bands. Our antenna has a wide range of applications in 5G and satellite communication systems, where largely separated frequency bands are needed. More in detail, a loop antenna operating at L-band (viz 1.7 GHz) and a patch antenna operating at Ka-band (viz 38 GHz) are placed concentrically on a single surface. Concentric placement facilitates the use of a lens which enhances the overall directivity. Simulation results show that the designed antenna along with the lens can provide very high gain beams (20 dBi) at both 1.7 GHz and 38 GHz. The obtained gain can be enhanced further by modifying the collimating structure's dimensions.
