To study the influence of low-order harmonic in power suply on vibration characteristics of induction motors, this paper analyzes the electromagnetic force of the induction motor when supply contains the 5th, the 7th and the other low-order harmonics. In order to suppress the vibration caused by the low-order harmonics of the power supply, a low-harmonic winding scheme is proposed. With finite element analysis (FEA), vibration characteristics of the induction motor under different winding design are compared and analyzed, and it is revealed that the low-harmonic winding can suppress the motor vibration effectively. Finally, taking a 32kW induction motor as an example, it is verified that the use of low-harmonic windings can reduce motor vibration.
