Condensation heat transfer of environmental friendly refrigerant R-134a in annular helicoidal pipe is of significant importance to the effective design of helicoidal pipe heat exchangers for refrigeration and air conditioning and many other applications. This paper presents an experimental investigation on condensation heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of R-134a in an annular helicoidal pipe. The average condensation heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops for R-134a are experimentally determined at three different saturated temperatures (35, 40, and 46oC) in an annular helicoidal pipe with the helix axial oriented in the same direction as gravity. The experimental results are compared to the test data available in the open literature for helicoidal and straight pipes.
