abstract

  • The objective of this research study is to examine the environmental operating practices of hotels and resorts to identify common operating activities and examples of 'best practices'. The findings illustrate a lack of systemized measurement and documentation of utility consumption rates and costs in individualized properties. This study also finds that corporate benchmarks for utility consumption are not effective benchmarks for nonaffiliated hotels and resorts to achieve. This study also finds that the education of hotel owners and operators is the key to understanding the benefits of implementing environmental management practices. © 2007 Elsevier Ltd.
