An FSS substrate for a planar slot array is presented. The cavity-backed substrate consists of resistively loaded, novel FSS elements and provides at least a 2:1 slot bandwidth. The numerical analysis of this configuration is carried out using a fast infinite array simulator which employs the hybrid finite element-boundary integral (FE-BI) method along with the infinite array simulations for validation purposes.
