Conventionally country distance is considered independent of firm actions. We however compute its inverse, country relatedness (CR) using 'survivor' data culled from firms' actions. We also test CR's predictive validity by hypothesizing that international coherence, the degree to which MNEs operate in related countries, is positively related to firm performance.
