  • A study was performed to demonstrate theoretically that EIT in a ∧-type system may be used to create either lasing without population inversion or lasing with inversion by applying a coherent pump field coupled to a fourth level. The coherent pump was used to control the population distribution in the four-level system, realizing amplification without inversion with a normal dispersion or double peaked gain with inversion and anomalous dispersion.
