abstract

  • There is an interest in presenting the sound from "Screen Reader" programs used by blind individuals to access the World Wide Web in multiple virtual "auditory columns", aiming to restore the perception of 2-dimensional placement of items on contemporary web pages. As a prelude to that application, this paper reports the experimental comparison of two forms of virtual placement of sounds over 5 positions, in front of a computer user. The results indicate that there is not a statistically significant difference in accuracy achieved by application of the Vector-Based Amplitude Panning (VBAP) or the Linear Panning (LP) methods. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media.
