abstract

  • The TiO2-catalyzed photooxidation of phenol, p-methoxyphenol, p-cresol, p-fluorophenol, p-chlorophenol, p-bromophenol, 4-hydroxyacetophenone, α,α,α-trifluoro-p-cresol, p-cyanophenol, and p-iodophenol were investigated. The decay kinetics of the substituted phenols are consistent with the Langmuir‒Hinshelwood (L‒H) kinetic model. Although a variety of substituents were employed the changes in the L‒H kinetic parameters are relatively small. The relationship among Hammett constants and the kinetic parameters suggest that a number reaction pathways may be involved in the degradation. © 1994, American Chemical Society.
