abstract

  • Appalachia has potentially valuable sources of energy other than coal, oil, natural gas and nuclear. These alternatives hydroelectric, wood, solar, biomass - can in the long run contribute to a significant degree in reducing national dependence on foreign oil. For the entire region, an important immediate domestic source of additional energy lies in the conservation to reduce consumption by surprisingly large amounts through relatively painless steps. -Authors
