Systems designers have repeatedly been told to expect penetration of the data acquisition field by ICs. Today this promise is largely unfulfilled. Meanwhile, hybrids competing in performance with traditional modular devices have appeared. To focus explicitly on the cost, performance and technology of assembled (hybrid and modular) circuits versus the new breed of monolithic devices, divergent views will be offered.
