Dr. Mariateresa (Teri) H. Muñoz has an associate degree in Speech Communication from Miami-Dade College, a Bachelorâs Degree in Special Education from Florida International University (FIU), and a Masterâs and Clinical Doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) from Nova Southeastern University. She is currently completing her second doctorate, a Doctor of Philosophy in Teaching and Learning, with a concentration in Special Education at FIU. She has over 35 years of experience working with individuals with communication deficiencies across the lifespan. Dr. Muñoz worked at Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) as a speech-language pathologist and special education instructor (1991-2000). She was the President and Executive Director of the Pediatric Center for Communication & Feeding Deficiencies, Inc. (2001-2015), serving as an Early-Steps provider.

Dr. Muñoz has been on a clinical line at FIU since 2005 and currently holds the title of Clinical Associate Professor. Dr. Muñoz managed a 15-year contract between FIU and M-DCPS. Under this contract, she oversaw speech-language services provided by graduate clinicians and their respective supervisors. Dr. Muñoz is the President/ Founder of St. Thérèse’s Roses of Hope, Pediatric (and Adult) Center, Inc., a non-profit organization providing evaluative and therapeutic services for speech-language and feeding disorders. Through St. Thérèse, Dr. Muñoz founded the Clinical Apprenticeship Program, a mentorship program for aspiring SLPs and special education students that offers learning opportunities in clinical practice (session observations and labs), research, manuscript submissions, and conference presentations. Areas of teaching, clinical practice, and/or research include augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), early childhood development/intervention, culturally and linguistically responsive practices, special education, neuromotor speech disorders, aphasia, dementia, interprofessional practice, and feeding disorders (e.g., Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder). Dr. Muñoz’s clinical practices and research findings are frequently presented at regional, state, national, and international conferences, two of which earned awards (state and national levels). Some of her works have been published in peer-reviewed journals. She has co-authored chapter books, two of which were co-written with former presidents of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), Drs. Anderson and Chabon. Dr. Muñoz has served as a consultant for AAC device developments. Additionally, she is a team member on grant-funded projects, including an AAC device development.
