biography

  • Dr. Teresa Munecas is a Clinical Associate Professor & Director of Clinical Education Physical Therapy at the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

    Dr. Muñecas graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Florida International University in 1999 and shortly after was accepted in the Master of Physical Therapy program at FIU. Upon completion of the program in 2002, she passed her state boards and was licensed by the state of Florida as a physical therapist. She worked in physical therapy clinical practice within the public school system, in the private sector, and provided services to both pediatric and geriatric patients in home health clinical setting.

    In her pursuit of clinical advancement, in 2008, she graduated from A.T. Still University with a Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree. She continued to serve her community as a clinician in various clinical settings and, in 2012, began working at FIU as an adjunct professor in the physical therapy department teaching Neuro Diagnosis and Management III; PHT 6169(L). She assisted in the development and assessment of the course. In May of 2015, Dr. Muñecas was hired full-time in FIU’s physical therapy department as the Director of Clinical Education and a Clinical Assistant Professor.

    She strives for excellence and maximizes her potential in all components of her professional career. Dr. Munecas implements innovative approaches in the classroom, within clinical education, in developing innovative research, and is always willing to serve the physical therapy department, the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences, FIU, and the community. This is exemplified as she graduated in May of 2022 from A.T. Still University with a Doctor of Education in Health Professions degree.

    As a researcher, Dr. Muñecas research has focused on pediatric and educational research to promote clinical practice and curriculum assessment and development.

    She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the Florida Physical Therapy Association.
    Dr. Muñecas aims to continue exceeding expectations, pursuing distinction throughout her professional career, and providing the support necessary to her department, college, university, and community.
