Mr. Gutierrez serves as Associate Vice President for Research within the Office of Research and Economic Development. In this role, he has overall responsibility for the management and operation of the Pre-Award section which is responsible for assistance with proposal development, proposal review, award negotiations and various other administrative functions related to contract and grants management. He also has responsibilities coordinating with the areas of technology management, research development and research compliance. Mr. Gutierrez has been with the university since 1996, and with the Office of Research and Economic Development since 2002. Mr. Gutierrez has a Bachelor of Arts in English from Florida International University and a Master of Science degree in Higher Education Administration. Mr. Gutierrez was previously employed at the departmental level at the university’s Department of Physics and has experience from the legal profession as an insurance defense litigation specialist. Mr. Gutierrez is an active member of the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) and is the university’s functional representative for the Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP).
