Dollie Denise Florence Green, MD, is an Associate Professor in the Division of Family and Community Medicine in the Department of Humanities, Health, and Society, and board certified in internal medicine and nephrology. She joined the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in April 2017, and teaches medical students at all levels. Dr. Green participates in the Green Family Foundation Neighborhood Health Education Learning Program (NeighborhoodHELP) household visits with medical, nursing, physician assistant, and social work students in underserved communities throughout Miami-Dade County. Her focus is on implementing a hypertension treatment program within NeighborhoodHELP to empower patients to have better control of their blood pressure. Dr. Green’s long-term goals are to start a chronic kidney disease prevention program at FIU. Her medical practice is at FIU Faculty Group Practice on the FIU Modesto Maidique Campus. She also provides specialty care in retarding the natural progression of chronic kidney disease. After pursuing undergraduate work in Biology at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, Dr. Green attended medical school at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Miami, Florida. She completed an Internal Medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, a Clinical Fellowship in hypertension and nephrology with a concentration in hypertension, and a research fellowship in diabetic kidney disease. Under Dr. Una Ryan she developed an in vitro model of human glomerular endothelial cells to study the pathogenesis of HIV nephropathy and diabetic nephropathy. A recipient of the NIH-KO8 award, Dr. Green characterized endothelial cell nitric oxide and published extensively on the role of nitric oxide in endothelial cell function. Prior to FIU, Dr. Green was a clinical educator at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she practiced clinical nephrology and internal medicine and received numerous awards for teaching. Additionally, Dr. Green served as a medical director for DaVita, a medical center that provides care to people with kidney disease.
