biography

  • Dr. Monica Flowers is a Clinical Assistant Professor of undergraduate nursing at the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences. In addition to teaching across the undergraduate nursing curriculum, Dr. Flowers plans and supervises student clinical experiences based on teaching assignments, participates in service activities such as faculty meetings, university/college committee memberships, professional activities, and works alongside Nursing Chair mentoring students and junior faculty.

    Since her start at FIU in 2011, Dr. Flowers has provided provided consultative services and collaboration on identified Veterans Affairs process and practice improvement and needs, including instruction on using appropriate technology and evidence-based pedagogical practice.

    Dr. Flowers has focused her research on veterans including mental health, trauma, and stress factors. Her research has been published in numerous journals including Journal of Trauma & Treatment, Advances in Medical Education and Practice, Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing, and Journal for Nurses in Professional Development.

    Dr. Flowers obtained her Bachelor of Arts in BioPsychology & Economics from Tufts University and a secondary Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida. In 2006, she received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida. As a Family Nurse Practitioner she provided care across all lifespans. And in 2011, she completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Northeastern University.
