Dr. Pouyan Esmaeil Zadeh (Esmaeilzadeh) serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics (ISBA) in the College of Business at Florida International University. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Sprott School of Business, Carleton University, Canada, and a doctoral degree in Management from the University Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia. He joined FIU in 2014 as a Postdoctoral Associate. He has mainly taught the Application of Quantitative Methods in Business (QMB3200) for undergraduate business majors, Managing Digital Services and Innovation (ISM4151) for undergraduate Information Systems (IS) major, and Management of Information Systems (ISM6021) for Professional MBA and Healthcare MBA programs. His average student evaluation rating is equal to 4.31.
Dr. Esmaeil Zadeh has established a line of research at the intersection of information systems and health informatics, focusing on the impact of health information technology (HIT) on the performance of health systems, improving the quality and efficiency of care delivery, and enhancing the engagement of patients in managing their care. His main research objective is to study various HIT systems to offer technological solutions for enhancing health information exchange (HIE) across providers, care coordination, healthcare providers' workflows, system security, patient safety, the completeness and accuracy of medical records, and healthcare interoperability standards. He is also interested in other research domains, including Nonfungible Tokens (NFTs), blockchain-based cryptocurrencies, and the adoption of cryptocurrencies by individuals and big companies. To date, he has published a total of thirty-five articles in peer-reviewed journals (including two Elite, seven A*, and sixteen A publications). His work appears in premier Information Systems and Health Informatics journals such as Information and Management, International Journal of Medical Informatics, Journal of Medical Internet Research, Journal of biomedical informatics, BMC medical informatics and decision making, Communications of the Association for Information Systems, Computers and Security, Information Technology & People, and Methods of Information in Medicine. He was appointed to a Knight-Ridder Center Research Fellowship in August 2021. He also received the Fulbright Award from the Canada-US Fulbright Program for the 2022-2023 academic year.
Dr. Esmaeil Zadeh has also engaged in significant service to his professional community. In addition to serving as a reviewer for a wide variety of journals and conferences for the Information Systems and Health Informatics communities, he has served as track co-chair of the 2020 International Conference on Information Resources Management: CONF-IRM 2020 – Track: Intelligent and Digital Health Care Systems. He has served in different department committees and task forces, such as being a member of the Hiring Committee for the IS Programs (Analytics and Cyber Security) in 2021-2022. He is a member of the Association for Information Systems and has served on a dissertation committee of three Ph.D. students at FIU. He has represented the broader interests of the college in local forums, such as being a panelist in the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 2021. He also regularly discusses new ideas about blockchain, cryptocurrency, and NFTs with local media channels (newspapers, radio, and TV) in South Florida
